Each year the Mobile Robotics Competition organizers create a new set of challenges for contestants to master. The competition requires contestants to build the robot from the supplied kit, master operation of and program the robot as required and complete the challenge successfully. The criteria, requirements and rules are published in detail before the event.
2016 Competition Details
2016 Playing Field
The Game: The challenge was played on a 12’x12’ square field configured as seen above. Teams were tasked with moving balls into any of three scoring zones. The object was to score as many points as possible during a two-minute autonomous and operator control round.
The Round: The competing robot will begin the round located completely inside the starting triangle created by the blue floor tiles. For the first 60 seconds of the round, the robot operates completely autonomously. Using sensors and pre-programmed instructions, the robot must attempt to strategically move the balls into any scoring area. During the next 60 seconds of the round, drivers take control of the robot. Teams score points for each ball placed inside the corresponding scoring zones.
NEW IN 2017 – the competition will involve more coding of the robots and the Intelitek CoderZ environment with robotic simulation will challenge competitors to complete a virtual course designed specifically for SkillUSA.
